President of the Vietnam Public Health Association

Professor Le Vu Anh, MD, Ph.D

When participating in the development of Vietnam's first public health university, Dr. Le Vu Anh aimed first of all at developing some basic training and research programs in this rather new field in order to introduce public health for the first time into an academic environment. The Master's training called "School of Public Health Without Walls (PHSWOW)" has been cherished and implemented since 1997. This program is directly supported by the Rockefeller Foundation. While public health was relatively new in Vietnam at that time, training directly in the field and through the application of research methods became an attractive, effective tools. The reflexions from realities showed that public health approach have been welcomed to all regions of the country. That led to the fact that public health faculties have been established in almost all medical universities in Vietnam and an independent public health university was born for the first time, named with the humble name in Vietnamese "Trương YTCC Hanoi - HSPH and an Englich name is "Hanoi University of Public Health School-HUPH" (Đai Hoc YTCC Ha Noi) was born in 2001, Dr. Le Vu Anh became the first principal and also the founding principal of this entity.

Prof. Le Vu Anh is also the founder of the Vietnam Public Health Association-VPHA from 2002 and played as Chairman of the association when he stepped down from the deanship until now. VPHA is a national Civil Society Organization (CSO). Being a Social Professional Organization, VPHA has a network in 9 provinces and a number of interventional programs at provinces.
