tac_giaVPHA.ORG

Dengue fever is an infectious disease caused by the Dengue virus. The Dengue virus has four serotypes: DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, and DEN-4. The virus is transmitted from an infected person to a healthy person through mosquito bites. The Aedes aegypti mosquito is the primary insect vector responsible for spreading the disease.1

1. Symptoms of Dengue Fever:

  • Sudden high fever lasting 2 to 7 days
  • Headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain

2.      Dengue fever prevention:

To effectively prevent dengue fever, the following measures should be implemented simultaneously:

  • Eliminate mosquito breeding sites: Empty water containers, cover jars and pots that are not in use, and clean up any stagnant water-holding items around the house.
  • Prevent mosquito bites: Use mosquito nets, mosquito repellents, essential oils that repel mosquitoes, and wear long-sleeved clothing when going outdoors during peak mosquito activity times.
  • Chemical mosquito control and environmental sanitation: Conduct regular mosquito spraying in high-risk areas.
  • Dengue vaccination: This is an active, effective, and safe method of prevention for both children and adults. The Qdenga dengue vaccine was approved for circulation by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health on May 15, 2024. It is the first dengue vaccine licensed in Vietnam, manufactured by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company (Japan).
