In Vietnam, according to the World Health Organization, tobacco use causes more than 100,000 deaths each year. Of which, 84,500 people die from diseases related to active smoking, and 18,800 people die from diseases related to passive smoking. Tobacco use is causing a serious and increasing burden of disease and premature death, as well as medical costs.
The World Health Organization emphasizes: World No Tobacco Day 2025 is an opportunity to expose the ways that tobacco corporations around the world use to promote and market addictive products as well as to point out false advertising tactics, deceive people, and make tobacco products more attractive, especially to children and adolescents.

Tobacco corporations still use many sophisticated promotional strategies, focusing on teenagers, women and girls through modern media, influencers, sports sponsorship such as racing, football... to attract new users, especially young people. |
3 |
“The tobacco industry has implemented its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and brought efficiency to the community”
|
The tobacco industry practices corporate social responsibility (CSR) to build an image for promotion, to cover up negative impacts, and to normalize addictive products to attract users. |
4 |
“Supporting governments in preventing tobacco harm”
|
Worldwide, the tobacco industry has a long history of taking legal action against tobacco control activities. |
5 |
“Heated tobacco products (IQOS) are only for adults and help quit smoking conventional cigarettes”
|
Heated tobacco has not been shown to help quit smoking, and many users continue to smoke cigarettes at the same time. |
6 |
“E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products are “harm reduction” products” |
WHO and many studies have shown that e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products still contain nicotine – a highly addictive substance – along with many other toxic chemicals that can cause heart disease, lung disease and cancer. These products are not a safe choice and are still addictive, especially dangerous for young people. |
