Training for Private Healthcare Providers on Malaria Prevention in Gia Lai

From October 1 to October 4, 2024, the project 'Enhancing the Role of Private Healthcare Providers in the Final Stage of the Sustainable Malaria Prevention and Elimination Plan in Vietnam' organized training sessions in Krông Pa, Ayun Pa, Ia Pa, and Đức Cơ districts, Gia Lai province.

The training sessions focused on private healthcare facilities, including clinics and pharmacies, aiming to enhance knowledge, diagnostic skills, and communication for malaria prevention.

Training Program Overview:

  • October 2: Held in Krông Pa district with 44 participants, including 34 private healthcare providers (22 from pharmacies and 12 from clinics) and 10 specialized staff.

  • October 3: Conducted in Ayun Pa for Ayun Pa town and Ia Pa district, with 37 participants, comprising 24 private healthcare providers (17 from pharmacies and 7 from clinics).

  • October 4: Organized in Đức Cơ district with 20 participants, including 14 private healthcare providers (12 from pharmacies and 2 from clinics).

Training Content:

  • Introduction to the project and the roles and benefits of private healthcare providers in participation.
  • Provision of fundamental knowledge about malaria and diagnostic guidelines.
  • Hands-on practice with rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) and reporting templates using smartphones.
  • Development of communication skills for malaria prevention.
  • Introduction to PSEAH principles to prevent sexual exploitation and harassment.

A total of 72 private healthcare providers participated in the training sessions, achieving an 86% attendance rate compared to registered participants. Attendees actively engaged in the activities and signed cooperation agreements upon completion.

The project also provided essential support materials, including masks, hand sanitizers, medical gloves, rapid diagnostic test (RDT) kits, and communication materials, to ensure the effective implementation of post-training activities.
